I'm not going to apologize for anything we post and I'm certain our readers are unconditionally grateful for each and every article we pen and learn plenty when they visit. When you live in a world where rappers clamor for equal parts *bling bling and world peace,* the stock market's gone and squeezed into some torquoise, checkered, skinny jeans and started jerkin', and the oceans around the world are turning black, you start to feel like something big is going on. And it's easy to get weighed down by the magnitude of the issues we face but that's why we're here for you.

This is what you've gotta do.

Based cats. It's a new trend. If you're based, you have a cat. In other words if you wanna be a boss, if you wanna be ken or the black ken, if you want to dominate the internet, if you're looking for love and companionship, if you're looking for genuine connection in a cold, disconnected world, you should fuck with a based cat. It's way less depraved but it's practically as messy (watch the end. hella sand in the shoes).

This video makes me ponder though. What if the US developed a super-secretive,
intelligence-laced, counter-insurgency effort in Afghanistan based around the idea of introducing the remote region to skateboarding and dune shredding. They would just have to design and build some reliable skateparks and bring some old jib boards to carve down sand. Instead of trying to get with the "in-crowd" you know by adopting all the fundamentalist, homicidal/suicidal activity - the equivalent there to collecting Jordans and fitteds here - get young Afghans on a skateboard. Get obsessed with that. Learn a trick. Go dune shredding. Get some sand in your shoes. No big deal. Learn some more tricks. In 15 years, Taliban ousted.

For labor day weekend I went to visit my grandparents in anytown USA, Selma ALABAMA. But holupmayn. Selma is NOT your typical slow moving, deep Southern town. Selma has a history mired in serious racial conflict. In the 60s MLK staged some marches there. They were a pretty big deal. Then, people basically forgot about Selma. Over the last half century or so, residents have left the town en masse. These days it seems like those who're left do a lot of sitting and reminiscing. the jobless rate is very high, stores are boarded up, and streets are pretty empty. There was not a Morissey Monday at the local "watering hole." My grandmother fed me pull pork sandwiches and fried chicken, I went swimming at the country club, and took a couple of flicks of dudes (pause, no boris) standing next to their (or their old lady's) big body vehicles.

Swangin' to the left. My hair is, i mean. Seymour's Pontiac was pretty reliable too though.

One of the most exciting prospects about joining twitter last winter was that I would be able to follow some of my favorite rappers. To me this was a pretty big deal and I figured I would enjoy a unique glimpse into the twisted thoughts and exaggerated lifestyles of some of my biggest heroes. I was prepared to have my mind blown or at least be wildly entertained. Almost a year later, I'm dismayed, disappointed, and disillusioned by what I've seen.

Remember when we said rap is the new punk rock? Well it's not new anymore (obviously) and I'm starting to wonder how punk it really is. It's supposed to be reckless and ridiculous. Like I need the following in the raps i listen to: murder, drugs, money, titties, cars, heists, parties, shake junts, and more. It's not like there's any shortage of this kind of content but if you say you're thug, be thug all the way. It's an everyday job that you can't half ass.

Rappers' content on twitter generally consists of the following softbody material: analysis of upcoming cable tv schedules, response to the weather, nonsensical statements related to trending topics, tweets @ other artists looking for beats, baby mama drama, long strings of one or two word tweets, and announcments of what they hope to eat for their next meal. Is that punk rock?

Twitter for the most part, is not a good look (NAGL) for rappers. Generally speaking they throw up way too many tweets, abusing their tweeting privileges, and theyre usually going for a Jay-z in Fade To Black type look; tweeting off the top with the some of the lamest shit they never wrote.

Im listening to The Crime Pays opening title track again. I bought the new Cam album on iTunes (seriously) on Memorial Day weekend and its been providing me with my most reliable dose of bang/knoc this summer. I often listen to just the intro on repeat . it's one of Killa's most satisfying tales about standard Cam material ( u already know) with a grandiose, royal sounding horn blaring on the beat. It's real lovely.

I'm not sure whether this song or the colorful, Harlem street legend who performs it have anything to do with Meathead's new ski flick, "Wild Stallions." Right now I'm about as far away from sliding a rail or hitting a kicker as you could be, sitting in my hot room in Williamsburg in the middle of July. But that's what's cool about this trailer. It captures what's special, unique, real tight, knock, whatever, about shredding the beautiful baby mountains on the east coast. AND You don't have to be a rider to appreciate this. You can be a skateboarder, a snowboarder, surfer whatever other action sport (theres gotta be a better term for this) you wanna get all wrapped up in. Unlike other ski moovie trailers this shit is accessible and it's fitting in briliantly between my rotation of repeated Crime Pays Intro plays. The Meatheads are POTEs (Products Of Their Environment). They have to get creative and they do. Theyre even boosting off some "backcountry" kickers that make me wonder if trappin really aint dead (these jumps are built in such remote locations that there must be communities of fur trappers nearby who trade mink skins and Ushankas). This flick looks like it's gonna be punk rock, it's sponsored by Madhouse Munchies (!) and I think Ian Compton's going to be in it. Luv it mane.

Sure, Pill just came out with a very real, almost eye-opening but ultimately kinda of forgettable video filmed in Atlanta's 4th Ward, but nothing has reminded me of the giddy excess of the good old days when videos had hundreds of crazies going wild in every shot and album covers weren't afraid to depict ludicrously unrealistic shit like this one. This is like a fever dream Cash Money Pen n Pixel job meets post-Mac Dre flamboyance with enough hood starz to scare the shit out of your parents. I used to think Billy Clint was a real heavyweight, swaggering politico but then i started working and learned the significance of the phrase "covering his own ass" and realized that it characterizes his 2 terms in office. Obama's way tighter of a speaker, diplomat, arbiter, strategist, friend of rappers and whatever else all around guy. What if every consumer brand in the country collectively started using Obama's face on their ad creative and package design? You know what would happen, a complete economic u-turn that's what. 60% approval rating = a 60% increase in spending. This era may not have a figure as idolized globally as MJ but we have Obama and he's pretty tight. He's a man who's beloved by both old and young, and is it even unrealistic for me to keep half expecting him to record a drop on the next Jeezy tape? With this guy anything seems possible. it's time to embrace this as the age of Obama. He's currently in the midst of instituting a worldwide takeover that ultimately will feature more hit speeches than Michael's singles catalogue and will last longer than Thriller on Billboard charts. Oh and if Obama doesn't work out Weezy might end up being the most famous man in the world. So we got some options.

The other night we mentioned Memphis Bleek at a Williamsburg party and got the gas-face from a bunch of ex-theater kid dorks who, if it weren't for the magical playland they live in, would still be getting wedgies and picked last for the pickup game of life. But the problem is that when you mention Bleek to "real hip hop heads" (barf) you get the same response. Not a good conversation starter or ice breaker (we usually either try moderately obscure rappers or our repressed and unfulfilled sexual quirks when around new company).

Fuck it: Memphis Bleek is great! Look at this man! He's the walking personification of early 2000s rap music; his pencil goatee and coordinated doorag/hat/jacket combo is so meticulous it looks like a Flemmish master painted his portrait. M.A.D.E. was a dope, underrated album and basically the only Just Blaze-dominated cd from those few years I can still stomach besides Philadelphia Freeway. His energy was crucial to the Roc and completed several classic posse cuts so fuck you if you think he sucked, you're stupid.

i feel like Im becoming a real salty writer dude (up here in the Attic of Lost Mutants) when it comes to analyzing what other brands are doing. But fuck 'em. They should just do it better or do it bigger. I'm sick of people writing "bring on the haters" or "you know theres gonna be haters" all dismmisively...I say "damn right!" We here! Which brings me to the subject at hand: might healthy. Here's a streetwear co that mostly sells graphic tees. They're cool, I like 'em, i'd wear sum of their shirts, but this video is boring. What's the point? This brand prides itself on the wit, sophistication, and symbolism inherent in their graphics and this video not only lacks personality, it features songs by Asher Roth and the Cool Kids! in succession! If you're not going to present a product of equal or greater quality to the supposed sophisticated staple graphic tees upon which you've built a reputable brand, get outta here! honestly this video's not that bad I just really dont like these songs. You may ask, is what im really saying is that kooter brown is not just hot its great? yes. thats what im trying to say and can it be our turn yet or what? Allright im goin back to having a conversation with a spider and scribbling more insanity on the scrolls of doom up here in the attic.

As we continue on here at GTH (goblin technology headquarters)...I've picked up a new hobby: collecting old books about skiing. Yeah and b4 we start, all the haters can suck their mom cause im ill so just get off me. ...Anyway, so far my library is impressive and made up of 2 books. Already I'm learning lots of stuff like apparently people used to read read books (not magazines or youtubes) in order to learn before they went skiing. They would take the book up on the chair with em and when they got to the top they'd ski down and read and learn as they were skiing. One time I saw my high school math teacher skiing in a green one-piece. He might've been learning and skiing at the same time but its debatable since I think i saw him doing drugs on the chairlift. heres a little bit of history for u:

As Baby-Son finally realizes how classic Three 6 is, I'm gonna throw up this new(ish) slab of Memphis Chevy-ridin, soul sampling d-boy theme music from Juicy J, the original Juice Man! This track is one of several of a nice little 2009 mini-revival that DJ Paul and Juicy J have managaed to scrounge up after their utterly disappointing last album as a group, starting with Project Pat's History of Violence mixtape, then following it up with separate solo albums: Paul's Scale-A-Ton (dope name, frustratingly lame art and wasted graphic design opportunity for the cover) and Juice's Hustle Til I Die. When Project Pat's first single "Keep It Hood" came out it immediately became one of my favorite tracks of 2008 and it signaled a few trends the boys have luckily continued; new collaborators in OJ Da Juiceman and Gucci Mane who since Last 2 Walk crapped itself out of some exec's "to release" pile have managed to become the two hottest mixtape rappers in the South and a return to this sound you'll hear above. This song is a nice little capsule of early 2009, with an OJ (the Juiceman AND the group) sample, a Gucci Mane guest verse and Juicy J's apparent obsession with O'Jays tracks.

I was casually bumping Rob Quest's mixtape last nite "Latest Greatest And Alilbit Of Somthing In Between Vol.1." I'd never listened to this tape before and its a shame because its a knocker! Three skits on here made me start laughing my ass off at not only their total ridiculousness but also their perfect capturing of deep southern domestic life.
